Marine Engine & Generator Overhauling
Diesel and inboard marine engines and marine generators overhauled and repaired by our ship repair team at Al Jadaf Dry Dock, Dubai, or on board across the UAE. Engines are stripped, inspected, reconditioned and performance tested; generators are overhauled on both the mechanical and the electrical side.

What marine engine and generator overhauling covers
A marine engine overhaul strips the engine down, inspects the major components and reconditions or replaces what is worn, so the engine can return to reliable service. Anchor Marine Engineering carries out full and partial overhauls of diesel and inboard marine engines, and preventive and corrective overhauls of marine generators and their control systems.
The work is part of our ship repair and maintenance service for commercial and private vessels, at Al Jadaf Dry Dock, Dubai, or on-site across the UAE. AME has worked from Al Jadaf since 1995.
Because the same workshop rewinds generators, builds marine switchboards and generator synchronizing panels, and overhauls pumps, the engine, the generator’s electrical side and the systems around them can be handled by one team.
Our marine engine repair and overhaul work covers diesel engine overhaul, auxiliary engine repair, and marine generator repair and service, from a single fault to a full marine diesel overhaul, at Al Jadaf Dry Dock in Dubai or on board across the UAE.

Marine engine overhauling
Diesel and inboard marine engine overhaul
Full and partial overhauls: disassembly, inspection, replacement of worn components, reassembly and performance testing. How far an overhaul goes depends on the engine’s condition.
- Cylinder head & valve reconditioning
- Crankshaft & bearing inspection
- Fuel injection system overhaul
- Timing calibration & alignment
- Performance tuning & testing
- Additional work based on engine condition
Marine generator overhauling
Marine generator overhaul and repair
Preventive and corrective overhauls that keep power available for critical systems at sea, covering the engine that drives the generator, the generator itself and its control system.
- Stator & rotor inspection
- Control panel & AVR diagnostics
- Insulation resistance & winding testing
- Fuel, oil & air system overhaul
- Load testing & recalibration
- Stator & rotor rewinding in-house

Repair or overhaul?
Engine repair or a full overhaul
Both start with an inspection. What we find decides how far the work needs to go.
Repair
Fix the fault and get back to work
For an engine or generator that has a specific fault and is otherwise in good condition.
- Fault diagnosis on board or at the dry dock
- Targeted repair of the failed component
- On-site across the UAE
Overhaul
Restore the whole engine or generator
For engines that are worn, losing performance or due for planned maintenance. Full or partial, depending on condition.
- Disassembly and inspection
- Worn components replaced or reconditioned
- Cylinder heads, valves and fuel injection overhauled
- Timing calibration and alignment
- Performance testing; load testing for generators
Overhaul process
How an engine or generator overhaul is carried out
These are the standard steps, plus any additional work found during inspection.
- 01
Inspect & diagnose
Engine performance and condition checked, on board or at the dry dock.
- 02
Agree the scope
Repair, partial or full overhaul, based on what the inspection finds.
- 03
Disassemble
The engine or generator is stripped down and components inspected.
- 04
Recondition
Worn parts replaced; heads, valves and fuel injection overhauled; windings rewound if needed.
- 05
Reassemble & align
Reassembly with timing calibration and alignment.
- 06
Test & return
Performance tuning and testing; load testing and recalibration for generators.
When to call us
Signs an engine or generator needs attention
Small faults left running tend to become bigger repairs. These are the usual signs that an engine or generator should be inspected.
- Loss of power or performance
- Heavy or unusual smoke
- Noise or vibration
- Overheating
- Rising fuel or oil consumption
- Hard starting
- Unstable generator voltage
- Due for planned overhaul

One team
The systems around the engine
An engine or generator overhaul often turns up work on the equipment connected to it. These services are in the same workshop.
- 01
Generator rewinding
Stator and rotor rewinding for marine generators and alternators, with dynamic balancing of the rotors.
- 02
Pump overhaul
Fuel, bilge and hydraulic pumps dismantled, repaired, balanced and pressure tested.
- 03
Engine, generator & synchronizing panels
Control panels for engines and AC systems, and synchronizing panels for running generators in parallel, built in-house.
- 04
Shafts & machined parts
Shaft repair and straightening and precision lathe machining in our machine shop.
Project experience
Generator works for Ocean 6
For Ocean 6 we carried out generator erection and testing, and manufactured, supplied and installed the control panel for the AC system and engines, as part of a wider marine systems package.

Engine & generator overhaul questions
Not covered here? Call +971 56 278 5002 or email info@anchormarineeng.ae.
What does a marine engine overhaul include?
A full overhaul covers disassembly, inspection, replacement of worn components, reassembly and performance testing. Typical work includes cylinder head and valve reconditioning, crankshaft and bearing inspection, fuel injection system overhaul, timing calibration and alignment, and performance tuning and testing, plus any additional work the engine’s condition requires.
What is the difference between an engine repair and an overhaul?
A repair deals with a specific fault, such as a failed injector or a leak, and gets the engine running again. An overhaul strips the engine down, inspects the major components and restores or replaces what is worn, so the whole engine returns to reliable service. We carry out both, as full or partial overhauls depending on the engine’s condition.
Which marine engines do you overhaul?
Diesel and inboard marine engines on commercial and private vessels. Send the engine make, model and running hours and we will confirm the scope.
Do you overhaul marine generators?
Yes. We carry out preventive and corrective overhauls of marine generators and their control systems: stator and rotor inspection, control panel and AVR diagnostics, insulation resistance and winding testing, fuel, oil and air system overhaul, and load testing and recalibration.
Can you rewind the generator at the same time?
Yes. Our rewinding team rewinds generator stators and rotors in the Al Jadaf workshop and dynamically balances the rotors. Larger motors and generator alternators may take 3 to 7 working days, depending on winding complexity.
Can you repair a marine engine on board?
Yes. Engine repairs and overhauls are carried out at Al Jadaf Dry Dock or on-site at your vessel across the UAE.
How do I know an engine or generator needs an overhaul?
Common signs are a loss of power, heavy smoke, unusual noise or vibration, overheating, rising fuel or oil consumption, hard starting and, on generators, unstable voltage. An overhaul is also due when the engine reaches its planned running hours.
What do you need to quote an engine or generator overhaul?
The engine or generator make and model, its running hours, the symptoms or fault, the vessel and where it is, whether the work can be done at the dry dock or must be on board, and your required timeline.
Do you repair auxiliary engines?
Yes. We repair and overhaul auxiliary diesel engines and the generators they drive, as well as diesel and inboard marine engines.
