An open coil heater uses a resistance coil that is exposed directly to the air, held on insulators rather than sealed in a tube. With nothing between the coil and the air, it heats quickly and transfers heat efficiently.

Anchor Marine Engineering manufactures open coil furnace heaters at its Al Jadaf workshop. They heat air rapidly with high efficiency and are common in ovens, furnaces and space heating appliances.
