Electric motor repair in Dubai
Electric motor repair and overhaul under one roof
Electric motor repair fixes the fault that stopped a motor; an overhaul restores the whole motor, electrically and mechanically, to as-new condition. Anchor Marine Engineering repairs and overhauls single-phase and three-phase AC motors and DC motors up to 900KW, LV up to 690V and HV, in its workshop at Al Jadaf Dry Dock, Dubai.
Every motor is inspected and diagnosed first, free of charge, and you receive a fixed quote before work starts, including a comparison of the repair cost against a replacement motor.
Where the windings have failed, our rewinding team rewinds the motor with Class H insulation as part of the same job, and every rotor is dynamically balanced before the motor goes back.
Our electric motor repair services range from a single fault repair to a complete electric motor rebuild or electric motor refurbishment, including worn bearings, shafts and housings, motor overhauling with varnish and bake, and routine motor maintenance work such as bearing replacement and cleaning, for customers needing electric motor repair in Dubai and across the UAE.

Repair or overhaul?
Electric motor repair or a full overhaul
Both start with a free inspection. What we find decides how far the work needs to go.
Motor repair
Fix the fault that stopped the motor
For a motor that has failed for one reason and is otherwise in good condition.
- Fault diagnosis and testing
- Bearing replacement
- Shaft repair
- Winding repair or rewind where needed
- On-site inspection, diagnosis and minor repairs
Motor overhaul
Restore the whole motor
For motors that are worn, have run for years or keep failing: electrical and mechanical restoration to as-new condition.
- Dismantling and cleaning
- Bearings replaced; shaft, end shields and cooling restored
- Commutator restored on DC motors
- Rewinding where needed
- Varnishing and baking
- Rotor rebalanced
- Full testing before return

Motor overhauling
What an electric motor overhaul includes
A full overhaul goes through the whole motor, not just the part that failed. These are the standard steps; how far each one goes depends on what the inspection finds.
- Dismantling & cleaning
- Bearing replacement
- Shaft repair
- End shields & cooling system
- Commutator (DC motors)
- Rewinding where needed
- Varnishing & baking
- Rotor rebalancing
- Frame restoration
- Testing before return
Testing
How every repaired motor is tested
No motor leaves the workshop untested. These are the checks that tell us a repair or overhaul is complete.
- 01
Insulation resistance testing
Checks the condition of the winding insulation, before and after the work.
- 02
Surge testing
Finds weak turn-to-turn insulation in the windings that other tests can miss.
- 03
Vibration analysis
Checks balance, alignment and bearing condition.
- 04
Load testing
The motor is run under load before it goes back into service.
Motors we repair
Electric motors we repair and overhaul
From small pump motors to marine propulsion motors, up to 900KW.
- 01
AC induction motors
Single-phase and three-phase, LV and HV motors for plants, pumping stations and buildings.
- 02
DC motors
Armatures and field coils for cranes, hoists, conveyors and deck winches, with commutator restoration.
- 03
Marine propulsion & deck motors
Propulsion, bow thruster, deck crane and winch motors.
- 04
Compressor & chiller motors
Chiller compressor, refrigeration and HVAC system motors.
- 05
Submersible & pump motors
Submersible, centrifugal, multistage and borehole pump motors.
- 06
Generators & alternators
Stator and rotor work on generators and alternators.
How we work
How an electric motor is repaired or overhauled

When to send a motor in
Signs an electric motor needs repair
A motor rarely fails without warning. Acting on these signs early usually means a smaller repair and less downtime.
- Tripping or blown fuses
- Overheating
- Burning smell
- Noise or vibration
- Bearing noise
- Failed insulation test
- Will not start
- Drawing high current

Repair, overhaul or rewind?
Which electric motor repair do you need?
The three levels of motor work we carry out, and when each one is needed.
| Work | What it covers | Usually needed when |
|---|---|---|
| Repair | A specific fault fixed, such as a bearing, terminal or shaft | One part has failed and the windings test healthy |
| Overhaul (rebuild) | Dismantle and clean, bearings, shaft repair, varnish and bake, rebalance, test | After long service, or with noise, vibration or overheating |
| Rewind | New copper windings, Class H insulation, varnish and bake, test | The windings have burned out or failed insulation testing |
| Testing | Insulation resistance, surge, vibration analysis and load tests | Before every motor goes back into service |

What is the difference between motor repair and motor overhaul?
A motor repair fixes the fault that stopped the motor, such as failed bearings, a damaged shaft or burnt windings. A motor overhaul restores the whole motor electrically and mechanically: it is dismantled and cleaned, bearings are replaced, the shaft, end shields, cooling system and frame are restored, the windings are rewound where needed, varnished and baked, the rotor is rebalanced and the motor is tested before it goes back.
What does an electric motor overhaul include?
Dismantling and cleaning, bearing replacement, shaft repair, restoration of the end shields, cooling system, commutator (on DC motors) and frame, rewinding where needed, varnishing and baking, rotor rebalancing, and testing: insulation resistance, surge, vibration and load testing.
Which motors do you repair and overhaul?
Single-phase and three-phase AC motors and DC motors up to 900KW, LV up to 690V and HV. That includes industrial motors, marine propulsion, bow thruster, deck crane and winch motors, compressor and chiller motors, submersible and pump motors, and generators and alternators.
How do you test a repaired motor?
Every repaired or overhauled motor is tested before it goes back: insulation resistance testing of the windings, surge testing to find weak turn-to-turn insulation, vibration analysis to check balance and bearings, and load testing.
Is it worth repairing a motor, or should I replace it?
Repairing or rewinding is typically 30–50% less expensive than a new motor, especially above 5KW, and avoids waiting for an imported replacement. Replacement can be the better option if the stator core is damaged, the frame is cracked or the motor is very small (under 1KW). We inspect the motor free of charge and compare the repair cost with the replacement cost so you can decide.
Can you repair a motor on site?
We carry out on-site inspection, fault diagnosis and minor repairs across the UAE. Full overhauls and rewinding are done in our workshop at Al Jadaf Dry Dock.
Do you rewind the motor if the windings have failed?
Yes. Burnt or failed windings are rewound by our rewinding team with Class H insulation as part of the same job, and Anchor Marine Engineering provides a warranty on motor rewinding work.
What do you need to quote a motor repair?
The nameplate details (KW, voltage, speed), whether it is an AC or DC motor, the symptoms such as tripping, heat, smell or vibration, where the motor is, photos of the motor and nameplate, and when you need it back in service.
Is a motor overhaul the same as a motor rebuild?
Largely, yes. A motor overhaul, also called a motor rebuild or refurbishment, strips the motor down and cleans it, replaces the bearings, repairs the shaft where needed, re-varnishes and bakes the windings, rebalances the rotor and tests the motor. If the windings have failed, the motor is rewound as well.
