Dynamic balancing in Dubai

What dynamic balancing is and why it matters

Dynamic balancing corrects uneven mass distribution in a rotating part. The part is spun on a balancing machine, which measures how much imbalance there is and where; weight is then added or removed until it runs smoothly.

Imbalance is one of the main causes of vibration, bearing wear and seal failure. Anchor Marine Engineering balances rotors and rotating components up to 2.5 tons for marine and industrial equipment: motors and generators, pumps, fans and blowers, and shafts.

All balancing is done in our workshop at Al Jadaf Dry Dock, Dubai, alongside our motor rewinding, pump overhaul and machine shop work, so a rotor can be rewound or repaired and then balanced by the same team.

Our dynamic balancing services cover rotor balancing for motors and generators, impeller balancing for pumps and fans, fan balancing and pulley balancing, carried out on our dynamic balancing machine in Dubai for customers across the UAE. Balancing is done in our workshop, for parts up to 2.5 tons.

Why balance

What dynamic balancing does for your equipment

An unbalanced part shakes every time it turns. That vibration wears out the bearings and seals and passes into everything connected to it, so a small imbalance left running tends to become a bigger repair.

  • Less vibration and noise
  • Longer bearing life
  • Longer seal life
  • Less cavitation in pumps
  • Smoother running after a rewind
  • Less wear on connected equipment

Balancing on its own or with a repair

Balancing only, or as part of a repair

Bring us a single rotor to balance, or let balancing be the last step of a rewind, overhaul or shaft repair.

Balancing only

Send us the part

For a rotor, impeller, fan or shaft that vibrates or has been repaired elsewhere.

  • Part brought to our Al Jadaf workshop
  • Inspected for damage and wear
  • Balanced on the balancing machine
  • Checked again and returned

Part of a repair

Balancing built into the job

For components we are already rewinding, overhauling or machining.

  • Every rewound rotor balanced as standard
  • Impellers balanced during pump overhauls
  • Shafts repaired, straightened and balanced
  • One team, one quote

Balancing process

How a part is dynamically balanced

The standard steps for every component that comes to the balancing machine.

  1. 01

    Receive & inspect

The part is checked for damage and wear before balancing.

  2. 02

    Mount

It is mounted on the balancing machine in our workshop.

  3. 03

    Measure

The part is spun and the amount and position of the imbalance measured.

  4. 04

    Correct

Weight is added or removed to correct the imbalance.

  5. 05

    Re-check

The part is spun again to confirm it runs smoothly.

  6. 06

    Return

It goes back to you, or into the motor or pump we are repairing.

Balancing result

What the balancing machine shows

Every part on our dynamic balancing machine finishes with a reading like this one. The machine measures the unbalance left in each correction plane, shown as the left and right panels, in grams and at an angle. Weight is added or removed at that angle until both readings are within the tolerance set for the part, and the machine marks the result GOOD.

In this result, from our Al Jadaf workshop, the left plane reads 0.46 g at 255° and the right plane 0.00 g at 12°.

  • Two-plane dynamic balancing
  • Remaining unbalance shown in grams
  • Correction angle for each plane
  • Result checked against the set tolerance

When to balance

Signs a rotating part needs balancing

These are the usual reasons a rotor, impeller, fan or shaft comes to the balancing machine.

  • Excessive vibration
  • Noise when running
  • Bearings failing early
  • Seals leaking
  • After rewinding or repair
  • After machining or part replacement

FAQ

Dynamic balancing questions

Not covered here? Call +971 56 278 5002 or email info@anchormarineeng.ae.

What is dynamic balancing?

Dynamic balancing corrects uneven mass distribution in a rotating part. The part is spun on a balancing machine, which measures how much imbalance there is and where; weight is then added or removed until the part runs smoothly. It reduces vibration and extends the life of bearings and seals.

What is the difference between static and dynamic balancing?

Static balancing corrects imbalance in a single plane and suits narrow parts such as thin discs. Dynamic balancing corrects imbalance in two planes while the part rotates, which is needed for longer parts such as motor rotors, armatures and shafts.

What can you balance?

Almost any rotating part up to 2.5 tons: motor rotors, DC armatures, generator and alternator rotors, pump impellers, fans and blowers including cooling tower fans and HVAC centrifugal blowers, compressor motor rotors, and industrial and marine propeller shafts.

What is the maximum weight you can balance?

Rotors and rotating assemblies up to 2.5 tons.

Do you balance on site?

No. All balancing is done on the balancing machine in our workshop at Al Jadaf Dry Dock, Dubai. The component is removed from the machine and brought to the workshop.

Do you balance rotors after rewinding?

Yes. Every rotor rewound in our workshop is dynamically balanced before it goes back into service.

How do I know a part needs balancing?

Common signs are excessive vibration, noise, bearings that fail early and seals that leak. A part should also be balanced after it has been rewound, repaired, machined or replaced.

What do you need to quote a balancing job?

The component type, its weight and dimensions, the machine it comes from, the vibration or problem you are seeing, a few photos, and your required timeline.

Do you balance fan and pump impellers?

Yes. We balance pump impellers, fan impellers and fan rotors, as well as motor and generator rotors and pulleys, on the dynamic balancing machine in our workshop.

How do you know a part is balanced?

The balancing machine measures the unbalance left in each correction plane in grams and shows the angle where it sits. When both readings are within the tolerance set for the part, the machine marks the result GOOD and the part is ready to go back into service.
